Director of Policy and Legislation / California Department of Education (retired)Teri most recently retired as Director of Legislation and Policy for the CA State Board of Education after 37 years working on education issues in and around the State Legislature.
Teri served as a Legislative Advocate for the CA School Boards Association and for Birdsall and Associates representing clients as diverse as the California Association for the Gifted, the CA School Nutrition Assn., CA Adult Education Association and a variety of school districts. She assumed this role after 6 years as Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction for Government Affairs at the CA Department of Education and after 16 years working in the CA State Senate.
Teri also served for 33 years as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Natomas Unified School District, during a period of rapid growth and change, as the district increased attendance from 800 students to just over 10,000, and added schools and programs to meet local need.
Personally Teri is an active member of the Sacramento Horsemen’s Association, the Sacramento Women’s Democratic Club and a catechist at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sacramento. She also served as President and a member of the Board of Directors for California Women Lead, dedicated to increasing the number of women in prominent government elected and appointed positions.
