Dr. DeVera H. Heard served as an educator for 30 years. She was a teacher in gifted and talented programs for 10 years, then spent the remainder of her career as an administrator at the elementary, intermediate, and high school levels. She served on the Santa Ana Unified School District management bargaining team for 10 years and is the only principal in the district to be selected as Principal of the Year at the elementary and secondary levels. She also served as Principal/Administrator of the Community Day Intermediate/High Schools, Independent Study Program, and I.S.U.S. program in Santa Ana.
DeVera received her doctorate from the University of LaVerne in the area of school administration with a focus on employee/employer relations and bargaining. She has presented at numerous annual conferences including some for CCS. She is the president of several community organizations and sits of the board of many organizations including Volunteer Center of Orange County, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Orange County Chapter, and National Coalition of 100 Black Women.
