Learning in Afterschool & Summer Project - How Kids Learn
This video describes five learning principles that are key to promoting young people's learning. It is produced by Temescal Associates and Change Agent Productions, a social enterprise comprised of professional digital media artists who work alongside urban youth to carry out professional video productions. The video features comments from State Superintendent Tom Torlakson, Researcher Deborah Vandell, Educator Pedro Noguera, afterschool youth, and others.
Afterschool Meal Program
The California Afterschool Network website provides resources related to the meal option under the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). Afterschool programs are eligible to either add a meal to their afterschool program (in addition to a snack) or replace their snack with a meal. Resources on this page will help you better understand the program and its requirements, discuss this option with your food services director, and get more assistance from the CA Department of Education.
The At Risk After School Meals Child and Adult Care Food Program Handbook addresses CACFP requirements that apply to afterschool care programs. In this handbook, you will find information about the requirements for: eligibility; how to apply to participate; meal patterns and food service; reimbursement; record-keeping and monitoring.
